Arginine![]() |
||||
For most people, consuming high amounts of arginine is not associated with any health risks.
A person with kidney or liver disease should not consume large amounts of amino acids without first consulting with his or her physician.
Individuals with herpes (either cold sores or genital herpes) should avoid excessive arginine intake since this amino acid might stimulate the replication of the herpes virus.
There is no established recommended intake for arginine.
Since arginine is a semi-essential amino acid, and the adult body generally produces enough arginine, dietary sources of this amino acid generally are not needed for adults.
