Vitamin A is found only in few foods of animal origin, while beta carotene is found in dark green and orange vegetables and fruits.
Good dietary sources of vitamin A are liver, kidney, egg yolk, butter, fortified margarine, whole milk, and cod liver oil.
Foods rich in beta carotene include carrots, sweet potatoes, spinach, apricots, peaches, and cantaloupe.
Fruits and vegetables that have darker, more intense colors contain greater amounts of beta carotene.
