Choline is a vitamin-like compound.
Choline, along with inositol, methionine, folic acid, and vitamin B6 and vitamin B12, are considered lipotropic factors since they help regulate the body's use of fat.
Choline is manufactured by the body, although it is controversial whether or not the body makes sufficient amounts of this substance to sustain good health. Sufficient amounts of folic acid, vitamin B12, and an amino acid called methionine are needed to make choline in the body.
Liver: Inadequate choline intake might result in an unhealthy accumulation of fat in the liver.
Memory: Choline and its dietary source lecithin have shown varying effectiveness in the treatment of memory loss and Alzheimer's disease.
Mental Health: Choline might be beneficial part of treatment plan for depression.
