Vitamin E is a fat-soluble vitamin.
Vitamin E is a family of compounds that includes alpha tocopherol, beta tocopherol, gamma tocopherol, delta tocopherol, and four tocotrienes.
d-alpha tocopherol is the natural form of vitamin E in supplements, the most common form of vitamin E found in foods, and the most potent form of vitamin E.
dl-alpha tocopherol is the synthetic form of vitamin E in supplements. Synthetic vitamin E is slightly less potent than natural vitamin E but is less expensive.
Alzheimer's Disease: Vitamin E might slow the progression of this degenerative disease.
Cancer: Vitamin E might reduce cancer risk, especially cancer of the lung, colon, cervix, oral cavity, and skin.
Exercise: Free radical damage can occur during endurance exercise, while vitamin E might prevent the damage and help maintain a high level of physical performance.
Heart Disease: High vitamin E intake (greater than 100IU daily) reduces heart disease risk.
