Inositol![]() |

Inositol is a vitamin-like compound. Inositol is found in the diet and is made by the body. Inositol, along with choline, methionine, folic acid, and vitamins B6 and B12, is considered lipotropic factor, since it helps regulate the body's use of fat. Inositol is found in the diet primarily as inositol phospholipids or as phytic acid (inositol hexaphosphate), the latter interferes with the absorption of calcium, iron, and zinc.
Liver: Inadequate inositol intake might result in the accumulation of fat in the liver.
Diabetes: Inositol might have therapeutic role in the treatment of nerve disorders associated with diabetes.
Mental Function: Limited evidence shows that inositol might be useful in the treatment of depression and panic disorders.
