Linolenic Acid![]() |
||||
Linolenic acid is needed to maintain healthy cell membranes, which are the outer layer of cells. Linolenic acid is used to make hormone-like substances called prostaglandins that help regulate many body functions, including blood pressure, blood clotting, menstration, and the inflammatory response. Linolenic acid also helps insulate the nerves, cushion and protect the tissues, and transport cholesterol. Low dietary intake of the omega-3 fatty acids by the mother during pregnancy or premature infants might result in reduced vision and mental function of the baby.
